On the recommendation of NAAC peer team (2nd cycle) the college has instituted a Central Research Unit (CRU). The unit is situated on the 2nd floor of the extension block of the new building funded by MPLADS of Prof. Saugata Roy.

Excellence in teaching and research by Science departments need state-of-the-art sophisticated equipment and support facilities. These equipment and facilities help the faculty, research scholars and students to carry out globally competitive R & D in basic and applied sciences. Since individual researchers may not be able to generate huge research funds for the research instruments, CRU was instituted in Bhairab Ganguly College with a mission to enrich the resources on a shared basis for promoting R & D with the following objectives.

  1. To strengthen technological infrastructure to carry out advanced research in various science disciplines under one roof and make their services available to academic schools and departments.
  2. To organize short-term courses/workshops on the use and application of various spectroscopic and analytical techniques for students and teachers.
  3. To support and promote inter- and multi- disciplinary research in contemporary and frontier areas.

A Central Research Laboratory is of utmost importance in any academic institution where the state-of-the-art analytical and high-priced equipment are kept in a single location and are handled by qualified personnel to provide scientific and technical services for supporting research carried out by UG, PG, PhD and research project students. It strengthens the research-relevant infrastructure of basic science and technology. This kind of facility represents a key commitment for preserving and raising the efficiency of research to the level of international standards.

Our future endeavour will be to make this facility available to other academic and research institutions, industries and organizations in the academic community.

Fully PC Controlled True Double beam UV Visible Spectrophotometer sampling modules allow the analysis of almost any kind of sample (e.g. solids, liquids or gases).

Photomultiplier tube detection provides exceptional sensitivity. ATR is an easy to use FTIR sampling method that is ideal for both solids and liquids and does not require any sample preparation. It is equipped with a versatile high throughput ZnSe ATR crystal for the analysis of powders, solids, pastes and liquids.
User selectable spectral bandwidth between 0.1-5nm Infrared spectroscopy (IR) relies on the fact that most molecules absorb light in the infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum, converting it to molecular vibration. With a spectrometer, this absorption of infrared radiation by the sample material is measured versus wavelength (as wave numbers, typically from 4000 – 600 cm-1).
The automatic wavelength control system and the automatic light sensors ensure wavelength accuracy and high performance of the instrument. The ALPHA II includes a durable diode laser operated with patented technology to achieve a very high wave number accuracy.
Photometric Range -4.0 – 4.0Abs With the integrated panel PC and the dedicated OPUS-TOUCH user interface it takes only three touches for measurement, evaluation and report generation.
Stray light 0.01 %T (220nm Nal, 340nm NaNO2) The result is a spectrum that gives a distinctive “molecular fingerprint” which can be used to screen, scan and identify organic and inorganic samples.
