Activities and Achievements of the NSS Unit of Bhairab Ganguly College

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Government of India sponsored public service program conducted by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. It is aimed at developing students’ personality through community service. Throughout the year the volunteers of the NSS Unit of Bhairab Ganguly College take part in various social outreach programmes, viz., visit to old age homes and orphanages, blood donation camps, illiteracy eradication programmes, tree plantation, Thalassemia awareness and screening test, campaign against use of cigarettes and tobacco products by awareness rally, eye testing camp, awareness programme on disaster management, gender sensitization, HIV, AIDS and mosquito-borne diseases etc. The NSS Unit of the College has been working relentlessly for the upliftment of the Prantik Nagar slum [the adopted slum of the NSS Unit; (formerly Panjavila Basti), Ward No: 24, Kamarhati Municipality, North 24 Parganas].

Smt. Amrita Bhattacharyya, a student of B.A. (General) Course and an active volunteer of the NSS Unit of the college, successfully took part in the Republic Day parade on 26.01.2017 at Rajpath, New Delhi. Amrita also performed at the cultural programme organized at the Rastrpati Bhawan to commemorate the Republic Day in 2017. Amrita has been awarded the best NSS Volunteer by the Vice-Chancellor, W.B.S.U., has participated as an invited delegate in prestigious Indo-China Youth Exchange Programme, 2017 and has been nominated for Indira Gandhi National Service Scheme (NSS) Award. She is the proud recipient of State NSS Award for best volunteer category in 2018.

Sri Sourav Das and Smt. Subarna Majumder, students of B.A. (General) Course and active volunteers of the NSS Unit of the college, successfully took part in the state level Republic Day parade on 26.01.2017 in Red Road, Kolkata.

Smt. Anisha Chowdhury, a student of B.A. (General) Course and an active volunteer of the NSS Unit of the college, successfully participated in the Republic Day parade on 26.01.2019 at Rajpath, New Delhi. Anisha was also selected to perform at the cultural programme organized at the Rastrpati Bhawan to commemorate the Republic Day in 2019. Like Amrita, Anisha also has participated as an invited delegate in prestigious Indo-China Youth Exchange Programme, 2019.

Shri Kaustav Dutta, a student of B.A. (General) Course and an active volunteer of the NSS Unit of the college, successfully participated in the Pre-Republic Day Parade Camp for selection of NSS volunteers of eastern region held at NIT, Durgapur during 8-17th November 2019.
