Open-air Theatre

Open-air Stage

The college has been constantly embracing innovative techniques of teaching, learning and evaluation so as to brace itself to meet the increasing global challenges. The ‘third theatre mode’ has therefore been incorporated as an effective teaching tool which attempts to make literary studies more invigorating and interactive by nature. The sole intention behind the ‘third theatre mode’ is to take the students beyond the barriers of conventional classroom teaching. It ensures a greater proximity to the students facilitating their comprehension of literary texts. The college has accordingly erected a spacious open-air stage, named Mukto Mon, where the students often conduct dramatic enactments of seminal literary texts. The open-air stage stands not only as a unique piece of architecture but also encourages students’ involvement by making them perform enthusiastically the roles of specific characters.

The departments of English, Bengali and Urdu have successfully used this infrastructural facility of Mukto Mon to acquaint their students primarily with the theatrical repertoire commonly needed for drama. Such teaching methodology has further reinforced the cultural ambience of the college, magnificently embodying William Shakespeare’s famous epigram-“All the world’s a stage”. Some of the most animating presentations in Mukto Mon have been the theatrical adaptations of Shakespeare’s Macbeth and Twelfth Night organized by the department of English. The Urdu and Bengali departments have also given us equally exhilarating performances of drama from time to time.
