Post Graduate Course: Department of Urdu
The college introduced Urdu in its curriculum in the year 2001 as a general course and in 2004 as an honours course. The objective of the department is to equip the students for job opportunities in various sectors as well as pursue academic research. The popularity of the department is quite evident from the ever-increasing rush of students for admission to the course conducted by department. The faculty members are actively involved in research. It is noteworthy in this respect that the faculty members of this department have already published a number of books on various topics and are engaged in publishing research articles in reputed journals.
The department comprises two Govt. approved contractual full-time and two contractual part-time teachers. The department follows the conventional method of delivering class lectures as well as using power-point presentation as a teaching-learning tool. It has a seminar library containing essential modern books on the subject for the use of the students. Moreover, the students of the department are entitled to borrow books from the rich collection in the central library.
Department of Urdu: An overview
Department of Urdu, Bhairab Ganguly College, is one of the significant departments of the college. The department has expanded at a very fast pace in term of the number of students and activities.
Following the recommendation of the Higher Education Department assessment report which suggested the introduction of P.G Courses in Urdu, the department along with the help of the college authorities applied to the West Bengal State University at Barasat for the P.G Course. The department was granted permission for the introduction of P.G. Courses in Urdu from the academic session 2012-13, affiliated to the West Bengal State University. The first batch of M.A. Urdu has completed their course and they have been awarded their mark sheets. Ten students out of twelve have scored first class marks.
The department conducts, on a regular basis, students’ seminars and class conferences. It also publishes the departmental wall magazine “AAGHI”.

Master Degree Course in URDU is affiliated to the West Bengal State University
- Semester – 1 : July to December
- Semester – 2 : January to June
- Semester – 3 : July to December

Course Structure: Each Semester comprises 4 units of 50 marks each.
Course Fee : Rs 6,000 (from Academic session of 2018-19) covering the 4 semesters to be paid in 4 installments by the students, 3000/- at the time of admission, and at the start of the 2nd, 3rdand final semester Rs 1,000/- (each semester)
Examination Scheduled: Examination of the first and third semester will be held tentatively in the third week of December and examination for the second and fourth semester will be held in June.
Class Hours : 9 a.m – 2 p.m five days a week.
Course Curriculum : As approved by the Board of Studies for P.G. Course in Urdu.
Course Duration : 4 Semesters completed in 2 years
Teaching Methods : Interactive class room teaching with audiovisual facilities, seminar presentations and project guidance.
Internal Assessment : Continuous internal assessment based on class participation and written tests.
