Postgraduate Course :Department of Commerce
The department of Commerce was opened in the year 1970, in the evening section. Subsequently it was transferred to dayshift in 1980. The objectives of the department are to prepare the students for different courses e.g. management, company secretary ship, chartered accountancy, and cost and management accountancy and to equip them for various jobs in industrial and banking sectors as well as pursue research activities. To fulfill the demand of higher education in the locality, the College introduced PG course in Commerce under the West Bengal State University from the year 2009-10. The department is furnished with modern computers and one of the most sophisticated I.T. laboratories. The department has a seminar library containing essential modern books on the subject and the students of the department are also entitled to borrow books from the rich collection in the central library. The main strength of the Department is its excellent faculty which comprises teachers of the college as well as from different colleges, universities and professional fields.
The course is divided into four semesters of six months duration each. At the end of the each semester there is an examination is conducted. The statement of marks is given by West Bengal State University. Classes start from 7.45 am and end at 11.05 am.
The course includes a number of assignments, project works and seminar presentations. The medium of instruction and teaching is English. No student is allowed to write in any language other than English.
